Euro 2004 finishes tonight, when Greece play Portugal. For a fair percentage of the country this will cause a sense of relief, and the talk of this patriotism in sport will quieten down until the Olympics (and these sporting occasions do tear apart television schedules, something the nation generally seems perturbed by). I've always enjoyed watching sport on television - though I do realise with Euro 2004 especially, that I often take the side of neutrality when national teams play. I guess I began to feel a little detached from the English football team's results due to the media hysteria and the depressing look of some Engerlish (sic) fans.
Anyway, I'm going to watch this final and find it interesting, and count how many times England or English things will be mentioned, so far the first mention was made 19 seconds into the match. It'll be the end of another great tournament which the general English person seemed to care less of, as soon as the national hope was knocked out.
